People were fairly upset Saturday night when Derrick Jones Jr. Won the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest over Aaron Gordon, so it reminded us: Remember when John Wall won in 2014 and all the anger surrounding that year’s weird format? The NBA has never been afraid to change things around at All-Star weekend, and this was especially true for the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest. The contest was judged by five former dunk champions: Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins (1985, 1990), Spud Webb (1986), Dee Brown (1991), Jason Richardson (2002, 2003) and Josh Smith (2005). With every event of the NBA All-Star break taking place in one day, the week without basketball will be interrupted for your viewing pleasure in a night of competition.
The dunk contest, 3-point shootout, skills challenge and All-Star game will all take place on Sunday, with coverage beginning at 5 p.m. ET on TNT.
For the first time since the Thunder’s first year in Oklahoma City, there will not be representation from the franchise, but the organization has deep roots in All-Star history and the skill contests.
There have been two members of the Thunder or Seattle SuperSonics to win the dunk contest, and there have been 11 years in which a player competed in it. Here’s the history of the Thunder/Sonics franchise in the contest.2014 Slam Dunk Contest Winner
